The heart health has become a priority for all. Although there are many factors that can cause heart problems such as a sedentary lifestyle, being overweight or smoking, now a team of researchers has added marijuana as an element of risk to our heart.
To do this, they followed up all cases registered between 2006 and 2010 in the addictions Monitoring Network, the organization that quantifies and evaluates health problems related to drugs. Examination of the data it was concluded that 2% of them had a direct link between marijuana and cardiovascular problems (mainly heart attacks).
“The cannabis can trigger cardiovascular problems and so should be seen by medical specialists and users, who often admit the dangers of drugs such as cocaine and amphetamines, cannabis but minimize” says the research leader.
The study, which was published in the journal of the American Heart Association, shows that this percentage is probably higher than obtained, as many cases go unreported and therefore not appear in the records, but this trend is upward problem and its severity as well. Not surprisingly, of the 1,979 cases analyzed, 25% of them eventually resulting in death.
It is unclear what is the mechanism by which marijuana affects the heart, but it was associated use with risk of heart attack or sudden death.
